BMC expands portfolio of journals beyond biomedicine

BMC is pleased to announce the launch of new open access journals as part of its evolving portfolio expanding beyond biomedicine into the physical and applied sciences.

The new engineering journals - BMC Biomedical Engineering and BMC Chemical Engineering - are now open for submissions, with plans for more journals to be launched in related disciplines in the coming year.

Chemical engineering and biomedical engineering are fields that combine engineering concepts with core scientific principles to develop real world solutions to the benefit of society, an increasing focus of researchers and engineers across the globe.

As part of the BMC Series portfolio, all content in the journals will be fully open access and making data associated with a manuscript freely accessible online will also be highly encouraged.

Rachel Burley, Publishing Director, BMC Group, says: “At BMC we are committed to open access and strive for continual innovation to meet the needs of our communities. We are delighted to be growing our portfolio in the fields of physical and applied sciences, where there is a need for more open access journals to serve some sub-disciplines. These new journals, along with others moving to our BMC platform, will provide authors with a wider range of subject fields via a single open access portal.”

Steven Inchcoombe, Chief Publishing Officer at Springer Nature, says:  “As a global publisher, we aim to provide a range of publishing options to serve the whole research community. The new open access journals being launched within the BMC Series will complement our wider Springer Nature collection. Expanding our portfolio of OA journals and books is one of the ways we are ensuring the benefits of open research can be felt by all.”

BMC has also added eight journals which were previously hosted on SpringerOpen, as part of realignment to group complementary journal titles on one platform. These are:

•    Health & Justice
•    Life Sciences, Society and Policy
•    Evolution: Education and Outreach
•    International Journal for Educational Integrity
•    International Journal of Food Contamination
•    International Journal of Emergency Medicine
•    The Journal of Headache and Pain
•    Carbon Balance and Management
