Since 2020 he is a researcher in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Messina.

About the collection

BMC Veterinary Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Comparative Medicine.

Recent years have witnessed increased recognition of the One Health concept, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Comparative medicine plays a pivotal role in this framework by providing insights into species' similarities and differences, fostering collaborations, and promoting innovative solutions to global health challenges.

This Collection encompasses diverse areas of study, including infectious diseases, zoonotic pathogens, cancer research, genetics, immunology, and emerging issues in veterinary medicine. We invite submissions highlighting the significance of comparative medicine in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through an exploration of the relationships between animal and human health, we can address multiple SDGs simultaneously. For instance, a deeper understanding of zoonotic diseases through comparative medicine enhances disease prevention and control measures, contributing to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). Furthermore, comparative studies on cancer advance SDG 3 by aiding the development of novel therapeutic strategies for both animals and humans.

Additionally, we encourage submissions focusing on the utilization of animal models for studying human and animal diseases, as well as advancements in translational research. Animal models play a pivotal role in understanding the pathophysiology of diseases and developing potential therapies. Investigations highlighting the translational potential of research findings hold promise for improving treatment outcomes for both animals and humans. We welcome manuscripts that delve into the intricacies of these areas, shedding light on novel approaches and contributing to the advancement of comparative medicine.
