Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies in West Africa

Global warming is influencing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, with consequences on and challenging food security. Climate phenomena are already affecting farming systems and the quality and safety of food, pushing additional people toward food insecurity. At the same time, food systems are responsible for high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, further contributing to the climate change. Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and measures to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change are likely to impact on environment, public health and food security.

This collection is to generate a compendium of knowledge through original research articles, short communications, or reviews on theories, methods and analysis of several aspects of climate and food security including, but not limited to:

  • State of global food security and the role of climate change
  • State of the art of national and international policies on climate and/or food security
  • Influence of climate-related policies on food security outcomes
  • Impacts of climate change on food safety and security
  • Impacts of extreme weather events on food security dimensions
  • Modelling climate-related impacts on food nutrition and security
  • Impacts of pollution and other hazards on environment, public health and food security
  • Effects of climate change on farming systems and practices
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies relevant to improve food security
  • Trade as adaptation strategy to face challenges related to climate and/or food security
  • Any other relevant aspect contributing to understand the nexus between climate and food security
