Lorenzo Ferro Desideri, MD, The University Hospital of Ophthalmology, Inselspital, Switzerland

Dr. Lorenzo Ferro Desideri is an accomplished ophthalmologist and clinical research assistant based in Inselspital University Hospital Bern, Switzerland. With a profound dedication to advancing the field of retinal diseases, He integrates cutting-edge AI technology into both research and clinical practice. His expertise spans from retinal imaging and medical retina to surgical retina diseases. He has deepened his knowledge in retinal diseases with previous international experience in Italy, where he completed the ophthalmological training, and Germany and USA, before moving to Switzerland.
 

Rodrigo Anguita, MD, The University Hospital of Ophthalmology, Inselspital, Switzerland

Dr. Anguita is an accomplished ophthalmologist with expertise in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular oncology. He currently serves as a consultant at Inselspital,University Hospital Bern,Switzerland. His training spanned prestigious institutions like Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, where he specialized in medical retina, uveitis, ocular oncology, and VR surgery. He has contributed to numerous publications, with research interests in retinal detachment, PVR, and AI applications in VR surgery and ocular oncology. He is actively involved in leadership, quality improvement, charity initiatives, and teaching and mentoring residents globally.

Daniel Lavinsky, MD, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Graduated in Medicine from UFRGS, he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at Escola Paulista de Medicina/UNIFESP and specialized in Clinical and Surgical Retina and Vitreous, earning a PhD from the same institution. Later, he pursued a Post-Doctorate at Stanford University in the Department of Ophthalmology in collaboration with the Department of Applied Physics. He is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He has extensive experience in Medicine, particularly in Ophthalmology, focusing on laser-tissue interaction, ophthalmic imaging, autofluorescence,ocular pharmacology, diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy.

BMC International Journal of Retina and Vitreous is calling for submissions to our Collection on The Digital Age in Retinal Practice. Digital technology is revolutionising healthcare, particularly in ophthalmology, and the field of retina is no exception. The widespread adoption of digital technologies and the integration of digital tools into medicine have led to significant changes and advances in patient care, improved outcomes, and enhanced overall healthcare delivery. This special issue aims to explore the transformative impact of digital technologies on retinal practice. Authors are invited to submit articles that explore these new technologies and explain how new models and collaborative strategies are enabling personalised medicine, predictive analytics, remote monitoring and novel surgical techniques.

•    Emerging Surgical Techniques: Novel methods and tools in vitreoretinal surgery.
