Epigenetics in stem cells and cancer

Tumorigenesis can be regarded as a progress of ‘reprogramming’ normal cells into an uncontrolled status via many genetic and epigenetic changes. Emerging evidence suggests that cancer cells use similar epigenetic alterations that occur during stem cell differentiation. This series summarizes the epigenetic events in cancer and stem cells and tries to stimulate the discussion on the concept of ‘cancer stem cells’.
