In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many people have adjusted their physical activity and exercise routines, and found new ways to maintain their fitness levels while staying at home.

With this in mind, BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation is pleased to announce a new special collection on "Maintaining Fitness at Home."

Ladislav Baťalík: University Hospital Brno, Czech Republic

Dr. Ladislav BaÅ¥alík is Head of Science and Research in the Department of Rehabilitation at University Hospital Brno. He has overseen the successful implementation of several innovative healthy lifestyle initiatives in the clinical setting. Dr. Batalik has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include exercise training in patients with chronic disease, development of alternative rehabilitation approaches, and healthy living activities to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Pantelis Theodoros Nikolaidis: University of West Attica, Greece
Dr. Pantelis Theodoros Nikolaidis is affiliated with the School of Health and Caring Sciences at the University of West Attica. He conducts research in the areas of Exercise Physiology and Exercise Testing. Dr. Nikolaidis is on the World's Top 2% Scientists list for 2021 and 2022, and he has authored nearly 500 papers. He serves as an Editorial Board Member for BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation.

About the collection

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many people have adjusted their physical activity and exercise routines, and found new ways to maintain their fitness levels while staying at home.

With this in mind, BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation is pleased to announce a new special collection on "Maintaining Fitness at Home."

We invite original research on topics that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The effectiveness of home-based exercise programs for improving fitness
  • The impact of sedentary behavior on physical health during prolonged periods at home
  • The use of technology and new clinical applications to support home-based exercise programs
  • Psychological factors that influence adherence to home-based exercise programs
  • The role of nutrition in maintaining fitness at home
  • Rehabilitation and recovery strategies for athletes and non-athletes recovering from injuries or illnesses while at home
  • The effectiveness of remote coaching or supervision for home-based exercise programs
  • Monitoring tools to evaluate the effectiveness of home-based exercise programs
  • The impact of physical activity on mental health during prolonged periods at home
  • Strategies for maintaining fitness at home during the COVID-19 pandemic

We welcome submissions from researchers and practitioners in the fields of sports science, medicine, rehabilitation, psychology, nutrition, and related disciplines.

We believe that this special collection will provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of maintaining fitness at home and will help to inform future research and practice in this important area.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
