BMC Chemistry is calling for submissions to a Collection dedicated to the rapidly evolving field of visible light photocatalysis. Using natural light to drive chemical transformations is revolutionizing bioremediation and offering greener, more sustainable chemical synthesis and energy generation methods. We welcome articles covering novel photocatalyst design, mechanistic investigations, organic synthesis, and environmental remediation applications.

Rosaria Ciriminna: Institute for the Study of Nanostructured Materials, Italy

Rosaria Ciriminna is a senior research chemist at Italy’s Research Council in Palermo. Developed at Palermo’s Institute for nanostructured materials in cooperation with over 20 research groups worldwide, her research focuses on green chemistry, nanochemistry, and bioeconomy. In the field of photocatalysis, she jointly developed the SiliaSun and TitaniaSun photocatalysts for selective oxidations. Co-author of over 250 research papers and numerous books, she frequently mentors graduate and undergraduate students sits on doctoral committees, and acts as a reviewer on behalf of foreign research agencies.

Zhiliang Jin: North Minzu University, China

Zhiliang Jin is a Professor at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at North Minzu University and has published over 350 papers. His research experience consists of hydrogen production, especially in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution, graphdiyne (g-CnH2n-2) preparation, and environment catalysis, including environmental pollutants catalytic elimination.

About the Collection

BMC Chemistry is calling for submissions to a Collection exploring the latest findings in visible light photocatalysis. 

Visible light photocatalysis has emerged as a powerful tool in chemistry, harnessing solar energy to drive chemical reactions with improved efficiency and selectivity. Such methods can provide a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to environmental remediation, energy remediation, and organic synthesis. This collection will showcase research applying light-responsive materials to drive photocatalytic processes and highlight the uses such innovations may present. 

In support of SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production), BMC Chemistry has launched this collection which welcomes submissions addressing the following:

• Synthesis and characterization of graphene-based photocatalysts for visible-light-driven reactions

• Photocatalytic solar water splitting for clean hydrogen production

• Band gap engineering and tailoring of graphene-based materials for enhanced photocatalytic activity

• The utilization of alkyls and anions in visible light photocatalysis for organic transformations

• Cross-coupling reactions mediated by graphene-based photocatalysts

• Functionalization strategies for modifying the properties of graphene-based photocatalytic systems

• Surface and interface design of photocatalytic cocatalysts

• Investigating the performance and mechanisms of biochar-supported photocatalysts

• Applications of TiO2-based photocatalytic systems in visible-light-driven reactions

• The design, preparation, and photocatalytic applications of yolk-shell nanostructures

This Collection welcomes submission of original Research Articles. Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
