Kelvin Ian Afrashtehfar, DDS, Dr med dent, MSc, PHD/MOE, FCGDent, FRCD(C), FDS RCS(Eng), University of Bern, Switzerland

Prof Dr Kelvin Afrashtehfar, renowned for his mastery in oral reconstruction and dental implants, is recognized by Stanford as a preeminent scientist. He engages in diverse roles that blend clinical practice in prosthodontics — specializing in aesthetics, geriatrics, and implants — with academia, where he leads seminars, oversees clinical training, and contributes to research. His current roles include Affiliate Research Professor with the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology at the University of Bern and as Vice-President of the Evidence-Based Dentistry Network, The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research. Additionally, he is a consultant in prosthodontics for a private practice in the UAE. His Canadian and Swiss credentials, alongside prestigious fellowships, highlight his clinical expertise. His commitment to patient-focused outcomes shines through his extensive research work and his leadership within global dental research communities. At the same time, he keeps a part-time private practice in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
 

Maria Antoniadou, PhD, University of Athens, Greece 

Dr Maria Antoniadou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Dentistry, School of Health Sciences, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Certified Systemic Analyst Professional (CSAP) with the executive mastering program in systemic management, for the University of Piraeus. Her research interests include dental and patient coaching (especially geriatric and other disadvantaged population groups), dental management, marketing, and sustainability issues in dentistry. She has completed the "Coaching-AC Accredited" programs (for certification by the European Association for Coaching Organization) and the "Coaching-Skills and Practice" accredited program (for certification by ICF-International Coaching Federation). Through her textbooks, "Application of the humanities and basic principles of coaching in health sciences,” and "Quality management in health services. The dental quality model: Materiam superabat opus,” she seeks to contribute to the final promotion of efficiency, productivity, human and resources sustainability, and job satisfaction of providers, but also the general improvement of the quality of services provided in the field of health. Carlos Alberto Jurado, DDS, MS, MBA(c), University of Tennessee Health Science Center, USA

Dr Carlos Jurado is an associate professor in prosthodontics and operative dentistry in the USA. He recently joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center as director of the Operative Dentistry Division. He is an authoritative figure in dental education who brings a wealth of expertise from international and advanced residencies in Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry from UCLA and USC, and a Prosthodontics residency from UAB. Previously at Texas Tech and Iowa University, he led CAD/CAM courses, evidencing his innovative approach in dentistry. His professional memberships include the ADA, ACP, and ICP, reflecting his commitment to dental excellence on a global scale.
 

Steven Mulligan, BSc (Hons), BDS, PhD, The University of Sheffield, UK

Dr Steven Mulligan is a practicing dental practitioner, clinical teacher, and researcher in the area of sustainable oral healthcare. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed published articles examining various aspects of sustainability including the environmental impacts of dental materials, single-use plastics, and incorporating environmental sustainability into dental curricula. He is a founding member of the FDI World Dental Federation’s Sustainability in Oral Healthcare Task Team, which aims to increase awareness of the need to implement sustainable actions in the dental community and provide guidance and toolkits to enable this. Through working as a key opinion leader with various industry partners, Dr Mulligan co-authored the ratified Consensus Statement on Sustainable Oral Healthcare.

This Collection aims to gather cutting-edge and quality research that explores the intersection of oral health practices, dentistry, and sustainability.

Dentistry plays a crucial role in promoting overall health and well-being. As the global community increasingly recognizes the importance of sustainability, evaluating and implementing sustainable practices during dental and oral health care will become a priority for policymakers, healthcare professionals, and patients. Sustainable approaches in oral health care encompass a wide range of topics, from eco-friendly materials and waste management to energy-efficient dental offices and the promotion of oral health in underserved communities.

Topics of interest for this Collection include, but are not limited to:
