World AIDS Day

On December 1st, we have the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day. The 2017 theme is “Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships”. This theme reflects how to increase our impact to move epidemics from crisis toward control.

According to the Global AIDS Update 2017 from UNAIDS, there were approximately 36.7 million people living with HIV at the end of 2016 with 1.8 million people becoming newly infected in 2016 or about 5,000 new infections per day globally. HIV infection and AIDS remains one of the world's most significant public health challenges. UNAIDS estimates that $26.2 billion will be needed annually by 2020 to meet global targets to end AIDS as a global public health threat by 2030.

Herein, we would take this opportunity to select ten up-to-date open access articles from BioMed Central journals, which topic areas focus on AIDS/HIV and co-infections, burden of diseases and economic evaluation, development of vaccines, health policy and human rights, etc. The aim is to shed light for researchers, academics and practitioners from around the world to share new evidence and perspectives about HIV/AIDS. We also expect it to promote the improvement of regional and global health and development of health policies.
